The Supreme Court has granted bail to Bikram Singh Majithia, a leader of the Shiromani Akali Dal (SAD), in a disproportionate assets (DA) case filed by the Punjab Vigilance Bureau. This decision comes after Majithia had already been granted bail in a Narcotic Drugs and Psychotropic Substances (NDPS) Act case. The court considered the dismissal of a special leave petition (SLP) filed by the Punjab government against the NDPS bail in 2025.

Majithia was arrested by the Punjab Vigilance Bureau on June 25 last year and had his judicial custody extended periodically. Within 59 days of his arrest, a chargesheet of 40,000 pages was filed in a Mohali court, alleging the discovery of Rs 700 crore in illegal assets. The chargesheet included statements from about 200 witnesses, details of nearly 400 bank accounts, and information on raids conducted in various states.

A Mohali court had previously denied bail to Majithia after conducting day-to-day hearings for almost 10 days, citing ongoing investigations and the serious nature of the allegations. The Vigilance Bureau has accused Majithia of laundering over Rs 540 crore of drug money based on investigations by a Special Investigation Team (SIT) and its own inquiry into the DA case.
