The Supreme Court has granted regular bail to Uttar Pradesh MLA Abbas Ansari in a case filed against him under the Uttar Pradesh Gangsters and Anti-Social Activities (Prevention) Act. Abbas Ansari, the son of late gangster-turned-politician Mukhtar Ansari, represents the Mau Sadar Assembly constituency. The court made absolute the interim bail granted to Ansari, stating no misuse allegations during the interim bail period.
Ansari must adhere strictly to the conditions imposed earlier when he was granted interim relief. He is allowed to travel outside Uttar Pradesh but must inform the trial court and local police authorities beforehand. Additionally, he needs to provide his contact number and travel details.
In a separate ruling in September 2025, the Supreme Court had eased Ansari’s bail conditions, requiring him to stay at his official accommodation in Lucknow. Last year, the Allahabad High Court restored Abbas Ansari’s membership in the Uttar Pradesh Legislative Assembly after halting his jail sentence in the case. Abbas Ansari had faced accusations of delivering a hate speech during the 2022 Uttar Pradesh Assembly elections, making provocative statements at a public gathering.
Mukhtar Ansari, a prominent political figure in eastern Uttar Pradesh, had represented the Mau region multiple times. Following his father’s legacy, Abbas Ansari secured victory in the Mau Sadar seat during the 2022 Assembly elections.
