The Supreme Court declined to consider a plea by the DMK to restrain Tamilaga Vettri Kazhagam (TVK) leaders, including Chief Minister C. Joseph Vijay and Minister Aadhav Arjuna, from making statements that could influence witnesses in the ongoing CBI probe into the Karur stampede case. The Bench expressed reluctance to entertain the application, leading the DMK to withdraw it with the option to pursue other legal remedies.
During the hearing, the Bench, led by Justice K.V. Viswanathan, advised against pressing the application, prompting the DMK to withdraw it. Senior advocate Ranjit Kumar, representing the applicant, requested to withdraw the plea with the liberty to seek other remedies available under the law.
The application, filed by DMK Organising Secretary R.S. Bharathi, aimed to be involved in the Karur stampede proceedings before the apex court. It sought directions to prevent TVK leaders from making public statements on the case until the CBI investigation concludes and urged for an FIR against Tamil Nadu Minister Aadhav Arjuna.
