The Supreme Court acknowledged fresh status reports from the CBI and ED regarding the investigation into the alleged bank fraud linked to Anil Ambani’s RCom. Despite progress in the probe, the main suspect, identified as Anil Ambani, remains unarrested.
Advocate Prashant Bhushan, representing the petitioner, highlighted the lack of arrest of the alleged “kingpin” in the case during the court session. Solicitor General Tushar Mehta, representing the probe agencies, refrained from commenting on the specific reasons for the absence of arrests.
The CJI-led bench accepted the reports, scheduling the next hearing for the following Friday. Senior advocate Kapil Sibal, on behalf of Anil Ambani, requested a 30-minute hearing before further actions are taken. The apex court assured a fair chance for Ambani’s side to present their case before any decisions are made.
The case involves allegations of significant financial irregularities and loan fraud by RCom and its affiliates. The apex court had previously emphasized the importance of a coordinated and transparent investigation, urging central agencies to collaborate in uncovering the truth behind the alleged financial misconduct.
