The Supreme Court has acknowledged a representation and resolution by the Supreme Court Bar Association (SCBA) regarding a recent incident at the Andhra Pradesh High Court. A writ petition titled “Supreme Court Bar Association vs High Court of Andhra Pradesh” has been filed in response to the SCBA’s actions. The case, registered as W.P.(C) No. 604/2026, is currently under consideration by the Supreme Court.
The SCBA had expressed dismay over the reported detention of a young lawyer during proceedings at the Andhra Pradesh High Court. The incident involved a young advocate being allegedly ordered into judicial custody for 24 hours by Justice Tarlada Rajasekhar Rao. The SCBA resolution emphasized the importance of mutual respect, dignity, and institutional balance between the Bench and the Bar.
Following the incident, the SCBA urged Chief Justice of India (CJI) Surya Kant to address the matter and implement corrective actions. Additionally, the Bar Council of India (BCI) and the Andhra Pradesh High Court Bar Association (APHCAA) intervened in the issue. The APHCAA stated that the matter was resolved amicably through mediation and timely intervention, cautioning against actions that could disrupt the relationship between the Bar and the Bench.
