Following heavy rainfall causing chaos in Maharashtra, Nationalist Congress Party’s Supriya Sule criticized the state government for its handling of the situation. Sule, the NCP National Working President, urged Chief Minister Devendra Fadnavis to assess the crisis and declare a state emergency. She expressed alarm at the unprecedented infrastructure failures in Mumbai and Pune due to the ongoing downpours.
Sule highlighted the severe impact of the torrential rains on transportation networks, including the closure of vital roads like the Mumbai-Pune Expressway and disruptions to local train services. She raised concerns about the safety standards of major infrastructure projects, particularly citing issues with the ‘Missing Link’ project on the expressway. Sule demanded a thorough investigation into the expenditure, safety measures, and disaster readiness of such initiatives.
The NCP leader emphasized the need for a transparent inquiry into the safety and environmental aspects of ongoing projects in various regions. She criticized the government for what she perceived as a lack of foresight in ensuring public safety and environmental protection. Sule also questioned the government’s priorities, accusing it of neglecting public safety in favor of political interests.
Sule also addressed national political issues, mentioning corruption allegations related to civic infrastructure near the Ayodhya temple. She announced plans for the INDIA bloc to raise this matter in the upcoming Parliament session and discuss it in alliance meetings. Finally, Sule dismissed rumors of a potential merger between the NCP and the Indian National Congress, clarifying that such talks were purely speculative and not based on any formal discussions within the parties.
