Surat district authorities have provided financial aid totaling more than Rs 4.68 crore to 20,745 individuals affected by recent floods. The compensation includes cash doles and support for household losses in the worst-hit areas of the city. Survey teams are assessing damages to ensure proper assistance distribution.
Under the state government’s relief program, 3,690 beneficiaries in six affected talukas received over Rs 83.93 lakh in financial aid on Sunday alone. The assistance comprises immediate cash relief and compensation for damaged household items. The relief efforts are overseen by Surat Collector Tejas Parmar in response to the flood aftermath caused by heavy rainfall.
By 5 p.m, authorities had disbursed more than Rs 22.13 lakh in cash doles to 2,459 affected families across the six talukas. Notably, Udhna, one of the severely affected areas, received the highest share of cash relief, with over Rs 11.61 lakh distributed among 1,290 beneficiaries.
In addition to cash doles, compensation for household losses has been released by the administration. A total of Rs 61.80 lakh has been provided to 1,231 beneficiaries for damages to their household goods. The surveys in flood-affected areas are ongoing, ensuring that eligible beneficiaries receive necessary assistance upon verification.
Officials mentioned that further eligible beneficiaries will receive aid as surveys continue in the affected localities. Sandeep Kumar Sharma, a resident of Gitanagar in Limbayat, expressed gratitude for the support received during these challenging times. He highlighted the relief brought by food supplies, financial aid, and compensation for household losses.
