Surat police successfully rescued a man from a locked seventh-floor flat after he consumed a poisonous substance in an apparent suicide attempt. The incident took place on June 8 when the police received a distress call from the man’s wife seeking urgent help to save her husband’s life.
Upon receiving the call, the police control room immediately dispatched the Laskana Police Station’s ‘Dial 112’ team, along with Fire and Emergency Services and an ambulance, to the location. The PCR van from Laskana Police Station was the first to reach the scene but faced a challenge as the flat was locked from the inside, hindering direct access to the man.
Police Constable Shailesh Chudasama and driver Kripalsinh Gohil resorted to innovative measures by entering a neighboring flat to find an alternative route to reach the man. Constable Chudasama eventually climbed across the building’s exterior grille and entered the flat through a window, where he found the man in a critical state after ingesting the poisonous substance.
The man, identified as Kunal, who works in the diamond-cutting and polishing industry, survived the incident and is currently undergoing medical treatment. The swift and decisive actions of the police officers during the rescue operation, including Constable Chudasama’s daring entry into the apartment, have garnered praise from the public and authorities alike.
