The Special Operations Group (SOG) of Surat City Police in Gujarat apprehended a 35-year-old man and confiscated 497 grams of prohibited hybrid ganja valued at Rs 17.39 lakh in the Adajan area. This action was part of the city police’s efforts against drug trafficking. The operation was conducted based on specific intelligence inputs received by SOG personnel.
During the operation near Shilalekh Apartment on Circus Road in Adajan, officers intercepted Raviraj Marvaniya, a diamond artisan from Surat. A search led to the discovery of a suspicious substance hidden in a plastic bag. The substance was confirmed to be hybrid ganja, a banned narcotic, by an officer from the Forensic Science Laboratory.
Marvaniya, who hails from Junagadh district and resides in Surat, allegedly confessed to obtaining the narcotics from a person known as Parth alias A.T. in the Katargam area. He was transporting the contraband for delivery when apprehended. The police are now searching for the supplier, Parth, who remains at large. The seized property, including the narcotics, cash, a two-wheeler, and a mobile phone, was valued at Rs 18,41,700.
The Surat Police’s action is part of the “No Drugs in Surat City” campaign initiated by Police Commissioner Anupam Singh Gehlot to combat drug trafficking in the city. A case has been registered at Adajan Police Station under the NDPS Act and the Bharatiya Nagarik Suraksha Sanhita, 2023, based on a complaint by SOG Police Inspector J.M. Parmar. Deputy Commissioner of Police (SOG) Rajdeepsinh Nakum is overseeing the ongoing investigation.
