Around 62% of Indians use GenAI regularly at work, with 90% of employers and 86% of employees believing that AI positively affects productivity, according to a report released on Monday. The ‘EY 2025 Work Reimagined Survey’ also indicates that 75% of employees and 72% of employers think GenAI improves decision-making, while 82% of employees and 92% of employers believe it enhances the quality of work.
India ranks among the top global adopters of AI, leading with a score of 53 on the ‘AI Advantage’ scale, which measures the time saved by employees due to AI. The global average score on this scale is 34 points. The survey, based on insights from 15,000 employees and 1,500 employers across 29 markets worldwide, highlights India’s supportive environment for employee engagement and resilience in the evolving AI landscape.
In terms of ‘Talent Health,’ India scores 82, the highest among all assessed geographies. This score reflects employee sentiment on culture, rewards, and development, which are crucial for Talent Health. The global average for ‘Talent Health’ is 65 out of 100, with culture accounting for 44%, rewards for 32%, and development for 24%.
Anurag Malik, Partner and National Leader – People Consulting, EY India, noted, “India has made significant progress in AI adoption, with organizations focusing on balancing productivity, skills, and employee experience. While technology, including AI, is reshaping work processes, the real impact lies in how employers leverage it to enhance talent health, capability, and workforce resilience.”
The report also highlights the views of employers and employees on AI governance, with 94% of employers and 89% of employees expressing confidence in ethical and responsible AI practices. Despite the recognition of the importance of learning new skills by 87% of employees and 90% of employers in India, the actual time spent on AI learning remains limited.
Globally, most employees dedicate less than 40 hours per year to AI learning. The report emphasizes the need for structured skilling, as employees who invest more time in AI learning exhibit lower intent to leave. Increased learning hours directly correlate with time saved per week, underscoring the productivity benefits of continuous skill development.
