A suspected case of food poisoning has affected a family in Bihar’s Gopalganj district, where 12 members, including 10 children, fell ill after consuming a traditional dish called ‘Fensa.’ The incident took place in Kritpura village under the Baikunthpur police station area. Doctors have confirmed that all the patients are now stable and on the path to recovery.
The family prepared ‘Fensa,’ a dish made from colostrum, the milk produced right after calving, to celebrate a cow giving birth to a calf. Following the consumption of the dish on Wednesday night, several family members experienced symptoms like vomiting and diarrhea, leading them to seek medical help. The affected individuals were initially treated at the Baikunthpur Community Health Centre before being transferred to Sadar Hospital for further specialized care.
Among those who fell ill are Priya Kumari, Simran Kumari, Priyanshu Kumari, Rishabh Kumar, Abhiraj Kumar, Monalisa Kumari, Hritik Kumar, Atul Kumar, Manisha Devi, and Rajanti Devi, as per local reports. Dr. Pankaj Kumar oversaw their treatment and mentioned that the patients responded well to prompt medical care, showing signs of improvement. All 12 patients are currently under close observation and are considered out of danger as they continue to recover.
Doctors have advised the public to avoid consuming stale food and to be cautious when preparing or eating dishes made from colostrum, especially during the humid monsoon season when the risk of food contamination is higher. While the suspected cause of food poisoning in this case is the consumption of ‘Fensa,’ doctors note that such incidents can result from various factors like improper preparation, storage, or contamination. The patients are being closely monitored as a precautionary measure.
