A suspected case of honor killing has been revealed in Karnataka’s Tumakuru district, where the father of a 17-year-old girl has been arrested in connection with her murder. The victim, identified as Meghana, resided in Nimbemaradahalli village under the Kallambella Police Station’s jurisdiction. The accused, 48-year-old Timmarayappa, allegedly killed his daughter due to objections over her relationship with a distant relative.
Police investigations suggest that Timmarayappa murdered Meghana on April 16 and buried her near a water body close to his farmland. He then falsely claimed she had gone missing and initiated a search. Following the completion of the mahazar process, the postmortem examination is set to take place today in the presence of the Additional Commissioner and the Tahsildar.
Meghana, a Class 11 student, was involved in a relationship with a boy from her mother’s side, a situation strongly opposed by her father. Her mother had advised her to focus on studies, wait until she turned 18, and complete her education before considering marriage. Meghana had stopped attending college six months ago and had been missing since April 16, prompting her mother to file a missing complaint with the police.
After the complaint was lodged, Timmarayappa left home under the pretext of searching for his daughter, but his extended absence raised suspicions. Meghana’s mother alerted the police, leading to Timmarayappa’s detention upon his return to the village. Initially claiming to have visited pilgrimage centers, he later confessed to the crime during police questioning. Further investigations are ongoing.
