A case of suspected “love jihad” surfaced in Bengaluru when a woman from Kolkata accused her husband of trapping her in a relationship, converting her to Islam, marrying her, and then abandoning her after their child’s birth. The accused, identified as Syed Imtiyaz from BTM Layout in Bengaluru, has been alleged to have colluded with his parents in the matter. The victim’s video detailing her ordeal has gained traction on social media platforms.

The woman claimed that her husband coerced her into converting to Islam before their marriage and later betrayed her post their daughter’s birth. She mentioned that his parents showed indifference to their son’s actions and even refused to let her into their home. The victim, struggling with accommodation and caring for her infant, expressed financial constraints.

Syed Imtiyaz reportedly met the victim, a young Brahmin Hindu woman from Kolkata, on social media and persuaded her to convert to Islam. The couple, who registered their marriage on July 18, 2025, faced a tumultuous relationship. The accused, who previously compelled the woman to undergo an abortion, eventually abandoned her and their child in Kolkata before disappearing.

The victim, seeking legal support, lodged a complaint at the High Grounds police station, narrating how the accused lured her into a relationship promising a happy life in Kolkata but deserted her after their relocation. Subsequently, the woman’s advocate received threatening calls post the video’s release. The police are actively investigating the case.
