A suspected robber was injured, and two police personnel sustained gunshot wounds during a late-night encounter in Bihar’s Kishanganj district. The exchange of fire occurred near the Faringola railway crossing in Chauhan Basti under the Town Police Station limits during an operation against an alleged motorcycle theft gang. The gang, led by Pawan Kumar alias Chintu, is wanted in multiple criminal cases across Bihar.

Two police officers, Nitish Kumar and Mushtaq, were injured during the gunfire exchange and were promptly taken to Sadar Hospital for treatment. Pawan Kumar alias Chintu, who allegedly opened fire on the police team, was also injured in the police counter-action. He was apprehended and received medical treatment at the hospital.

Santosh Kumar, the SP of Kishanganj, revealed that Pawan Kumar alias Chintu has a criminal history and had been under police surveillance for days. The accused, with numerous criminal cases registered against him in various districts, had arrived in Kishanganj with associates, suspected of planning a major criminal act. District Magistrate Vishal Raj and SP Santosh Kumar visited the encounter site with heavy police presence to assess the situation.

Raids are ongoing to locate and apprehend the remaining accomplices who managed to escape during the encounter. The police have cordoned off the area around the crime scene, and a Forensic Science Laboratory (FSL) team has been summoned to gather scientific evidence from the site.
