Suspended Trinamool Congress leader and Bharatpur MLA, Humayun Kabir, announced that his newly-launched Janata Unnayan Party (JUP) will compete for 182 seats in the upcoming West Bengal Assembly elections. Kabir expressed interest in forming an electoral alliance with the Indian Secular Front (ISF) and AIMIM led by Asaduddin Owaisi. However, the ISF has not yet responded to the proposal.
Kabir had previously declared that his party aimed to contest 135 out of the total 294 Assembly seats in the state, with a target of winning at least 90 seats. Confident in his party’s potential impact on government formation, Kabir emphasized his goal of countering the BJP in the elections. He criticized Mamata Banerjee and accused her of betraying the Muslim community on various issues.
The suspended leader outlined his strategy for the elections, expressing confidence in achieving remarkable results by contesting in 182 seats. Kabir highlighted his collaboration with the ISF in shaping the future of Bengal politics and welcomed the potential inclusion of AIMIM in their alliance. He mentioned that details of seat sharing would be disclosed after discussions by December 31.
Humayun Kabir revealed his plan to campaign in three Assembly constituencies daily, utilizing a helicopter for efficient travel. Despite facing competition from major political parties like Trinamool Congress, BJP, Congress, and CPIM, Kabir remained undeterred in his election pursuits. In response to Kabir’s actions, Trinamool Congress All-India general secretary Abhishek Banerjee emphasized the freedom of individuals to establish political parties and urged against politicizing sensitive matters.
