The Leader of Opposition in the West Bengal Assembly, Suvendu Adhikari, expressed confidence in his success at the polling booth in Bhabanipur constituency, South Kolkata. This constituency is where Chief Minister Mamata Banerjee and her nephew, Abhishek Banerjee, cast their votes. Adhikari interacted with voters at the Mitra Institution polling booth and left, stating his confidence in his lead due to the peaceful polling process.
Adhikari reported an incident at a polling booth in Falta, South 24 Parganas district, where the EVM button for the BJP candidate was covered by tape. He informed Union Home Minister Amit Shah, who assured action. The Election Commission of India (ECI) has been notified by the party’s central observer and IT Chief, Amit Malviya, promising action.
The ECI has requested a report from the Chief Electoral Officer (CEO), West Bengal, regarding the taped button incident. The CEO’s office mentioned that if such reports are verified, affected booths will undergo re-polling. Meanwhile, Chief Minister Mamata Banerjee criticized the central forces deployed during the second phase of polling, accusing them of favoring the BJP and targeting Trinamool Congress members.
