Leader of the Opposition in the West Bengal Assembly, Suvendu Adhikari, has advised BJP legislators to prioritize their respective Assembly constituencies starting from the New Year. He emphasized that if legislators need to visit Kolkata for official duties, they should aim to return to their constituencies the same day after completing their tasks. Adhikari interacted with BJP legislators at the Assembly, stressing the importance of concentrating on constituency work over unnecessary time in Kolkata.
Adhikari outlined the plan for the upcoming winter session of the Assembly in January, followed by the interim Budget session in February. He suggested that legislators from nearby constituencies should attend sessions in Kolkata during the day and return home in the evening, except for those from distant areas like North Bengal. Adhikari’s dedication to his own constituency of Nandigram was highlighted as an example of effective time management by a BJP legislator.
With 65 legislators in the West Bengal Assembly, the BJP, led by Adhikari, won the Nandigram constituency in the 2021 elections, defeating Chief Minister Mamata Banerjee. Despite this, Banerjee secured victory in the Bhabanipur by-election and continued her tenure as Chief Minister for a third consecutive term.
