Suvendu Adhikari took office as the ninth Chief Minister of West Bengal, marking the state’s first BJP-led government. The swearing-in ceremony, held at Brigade Parade Ground in Kolkata, saw enthusiastic support from party followers and dignitaries. Prime Minister Narendra Modi warmly embraced Adhikari, and Uttar Pradesh Chief Minister Yogi Adityanath congratulated him while draping a saffron scarf around his neck.
Adhikari, clad in traditional Bengali attire, including a dhoti and saffron Kurta, was joined by five other ministers for the oath-taking. Notable figures like Dilip Ghosh, Agnimitra Paul, Nisith Pramanik, Ashok Kirtania, and Khudiram Tudu also assumed their roles. The ministers delivered their oaths in Bengali, except for Tudu, who spoke in Santali, his native language.
Following the ceremony, the ministers’ portfolios remain undisclosed, along with the identities of additional cabinet members. The event, overseen by West Bengal Governor R. N. Ravi, featured the presence of PM Modi, Home Minister Amit Shah, and leaders from BJP-governed states. Adhikari and his team are set to convene at the Writers’ Buildings before proceeding to the state Assembly for their first official meeting.
