Bharatiya Janata Party (BJP) Rajya Sabha MP Swati Maliwal, former Delhi Commission for Women chief, expressed strong disapproval of the Punjab government’s handling of the law and order situation in the state. Maliwal highlighted the alleged failure of the administration to control the increasing crime rate in Punjab.
In a social media post, Maliwal criticized the Punjab government, stating that law and order in the state had deteriorated significantly. She accused the authorities of losing control over prisons, leading to a surge in criminal activities on the streets.
Maliwal pointed out the chaotic conditions within Punjab’s jails, where inmates were causing disturbances, damaging property, and even possessing mobile phones. She also mentioned the recent tragic incident in Amritsar, where a Punjab Police Assistant Sub-Inspector was fatally shot while on duty.
The BJP MP emphasized that crime rates in Punjab were on the rise, with prisoners seemingly operating without restraint under the authorities’ supervision. Maliwal criticized the Punjab Chief Minister for allegedly neglecting his duties and aligning with Arvind Kejriwal, terming the situation as disgraceful.
The criticism from Maliwal comes amidst escalating political tensions regarding the law and order situation in Punjab, with opposition leaders targeting the Aam Aadmi Party government over concerns about security and prison management. The state has been witnessing ongoing political disputes over incidents of violence and the functioning of correctional facilities.
