Commenting on the recent political events in Karnataka after Siddaramaiah stepped down as Chief Minister, Satish Jarkiholi, a former minister and close ally of Siddaramaiah, mentioned that a decision is anticipated by Saturday evening, with finalization expected by Monday or Tuesday. Jarkiholi informed reporters that Siddaramaiah’s return from Delhi will prompt discussions on his meetings with Rahul Gandhi and Sonia Gandhi, leading to a resolution.
When questioned about the selection of the new Chief Minister and his own aspirations for the position, Jarkiholi clarified that he is not a contender and that deliberations have not commenced. He expressed readiness to voice his views when the matter is addressed formally. Regarding the potential appointment of Deputy Chief Ministers, Jarkiholi stated that the issue remains pending and assured that clarity on the leadership matter would be achieved by the following Tuesday.
Jarkiholi highlighted that decisions concerning leadership would be made by Siddaramaiah and D.K. Shivakumar post their consultations with the Congress high command upon their return from Delhi. He assured that the resolution process would be swift, with expectations of finality by early next week. Notably, Siddaramaiah has called for a Congress Legislature Party (CLP) meeting on Saturday evening to elect the House leader.
Discussing Siddaramaiah’s future in politics, Jarkiholi acknowledged the party’s support during his six-year tenure as Chief Minister, emphasizing his continued involvement in guiding the party towards the 2028 Assembly elections. Addressing speculations about Siddaramaiah’s potential shift to national politics, Jarkiholi emphasized that the decision rests with Siddaramaiah, affirming his leadership regardless of his future path.
Jarkiholi advocated for a transition in party leadership, advocating for the emergence of new faces to invigorate the party’s prospects. He anticipated that once the new Chief Minister is chosen, uncertainties surrounding leadership would be resolved, paving the way for a fresh chapter in the party’s governance.
