A sword demonstration at a Muharram procession in Madhubani district took a dangerous turn when a sword slipped from a participant’s hand and struck a teenager in the head. The incident, which occurred in the Rajnagar area, caused panic among procession attendees, leading to a temporary halt in the event. The injured teenager, identified as Md. Nemat, was taken to a local health center after the sword penetrated approximately two-and-a-half inches into his head.
The youth handling the sword reportedly fled the scene following the accident. Despite efforts to remove the sword at the Community Health Centre in Rajnagar, doctors were unable to extract it due to its deep penetration. Consequently, the teenager was referred to Sadar Hospital in Madhubani and later advised to seek advanced treatment at DMCH in Darbhanga. However, his family opted to take him to Ramshila Hospital in Sakri, where a successful surgery lasting several hours removed the sword, and his condition is now stable.
Rajnagar Station House Officer Satyendra Kumar confirmed that the police were informed about the incident, although no formal complaint has been lodged yet. He mentioned that necessary action would be initiated upon the submission of a written complaint. This incident has reignited concerns about the safety of weapon displays during religious processions, emphasizing the need for enhanced caution, safety protocols, and administrative supervision to prevent similar accidents in the future.
