Taiwan’s military initiated a five-day “Immediate Combat Readiness Exercise” to enhance preparedness against potential Chinese aggression. The exercise, running from Monday to Friday, aims to facilitate a swift transition from peacetime to wartime operations for military units at all levels. Combat units have mobilized to defensive positions across Taiwan to deter potential enemy forces.
As part of the exercise, several armored vehicles and military communication systems were observed moving towards defensive positions near Qingpu in Taoyuan. This exercise comes in response to China’s increased military activities near Taiwan, as China asserts Taiwan as part of its territory and emphasizes reunification by force if necessary.
Despite China’s efforts, Taiwan remains steadfast in asserting its sovereignty and responding to Chinese provocations. President Lai Ching-te recently urged China to halt military expansion in various regions, emphasizing Taiwan’s commitment to peaceful cooperation based on equality and dignity. Taiwan’s democracy and economy were highlighted during a reception for foreign correspondents, with President Lai stressing the people’s right to determine the island’s future.
In a statement on geopolitical issues, G7 leaders reiterated their opposition to unilateral attempts to alter the status quo in the Indo-Pacific region, emphasizing peaceful dialogue as the solution. The importance of a free and open Indo-Pacific based on the rule of law was underscored, with a firm stance against any coercive actions in the East and South China Seas and across the Taiwan Strait.
