Taiwan’s Foreign Minister, Lin Chia-lung, arrived in Eswatini after the President’s visit was canceled. He expressed gratitude for the warm welcome from Foreign Minister Pholile Shakantu and others. Lin looks forward to participating in national celebrations marking 58 years of Taiwan-Eswatini ties.

The cancellation of Taiwan President Lai Ching-te’s visit to Eswatini was due to revoked overflight clearances from multiple nations. This move was attributed to China’s economic coercion, as stated by Presidential Office Secretary-General Pan Men-an. China’s actions were criticized for undermining the international order.

President Lai Ching-te reaffirmed Taiwan’s commitment to engaging with the global community despite external pressure. He emphasized Taiwan’s determination to build friendships with like-minded partners. Lai Ching-te’s visit to Eswatini was intended to coincide with significant historical celebrations in the African nation.
