The Tamil Nadu BJP has criticized the DMK government, alleging a surge in narcotics trafficking in the state. The party demanded the immediate establishment of a Special Anti-Narcotics Task Force to address the issue. BJP spokesperson A.N.S. Prasad expressed concerns about Tamil Nadu’s increasing drug trade, labeling it as a potential drug capital of India.
The BJP highlighted a significant rise in cases registered under the Narcotic Drugs and Psychotropic Substances (NDPS) Act during the DMK regime. Data presented in the Assembly showed over 63,000 NDPS cases and more than 3.3 lakh kg of drugs seized in recent years. The party argued that the spike in drug seizures indicated a growing drug network rather than improved enforcement efforts.
Referring to recent incidents of large ganja seizures in various districts, the BJP emphasized the need for a high-level, independent task force to dismantle organized drug networks. The party expressed worries about drug peddling near schools and railway stations, particularly impacting students and youth. Allegations of police personnel involvement in narcotics-related offenses were also raised by the BJP.
The BJP insisted on the necessity of a specialized anti-narcotics unit to effectively combat the drug menace and restore public trust. The party criticized the government for what it perceived as inadequate action against drug trafficking despite public complaints. In response to these accusations, the DMK government maintained its intensified enforcement efforts, resulting in record seizures and arrests.
