Tamil Nadu BJP spokesperson A.N.S. Prasad expressed satisfaction with the recent India-US trade understanding following discussions between Prime Minister Narendra Modi and US President Donald Trump. The agreement involves a significant reduction in US tariffs on Indian goods, creating new opportunities for Indian exporters across various sectors such as manufacturing, agriculture, textiles, engineering goods, pharmaceuticals, and technology.
Prasad emphasized that the tariff cut signifies a milestone in bilateral relations, underpinned by mutual trust and strategic clarity between the two leaders. This move is expected to benefit Indian youth, farmers, MSMEs, entrepreneurs, and manufacturers by facilitating market access, boosting exports, and fostering job creation. The reciprocal arrangement also entails India gradually lowering trade barriers on US products, with a roadmap toward minimal tariffs in specific sectors.
India’s commitment to enhance imports from the US, particularly in energy, agriculture, and advanced technology, is seen as a step towards deepening economic ties between the two nations. Notably, India’s decision to cease Russian oil purchases is viewed as a strategic gesture signaling closer alignment with the US. Prasad highlighted that beyond its economic implications, the trade agreement conveys a broader message of cooperation between major democracies, promoting global stability, fair trade, and shared prosperity.
The spokesperson commended the leadership of PM Modi and President Trump, attributing the success of the agreement to their strategic vision. He lauded the pact as a model for constructive international engagement based on reciprocity, trust, and mutual benefit in the long term. Prasad concluded by affirming that the India-US trade breakthrough underscores the pivotal roles of both countries in democracy, innovation, and economic advancement, shaping not only their bilateral relations but also the global economic landscape.
