The Tamil Nadu BJP has officially presented a roster of 72 Assembly constituencies to the AIADMK for discussions on seat-sharing in the upcoming state elections. The BJP has indicated its interest in contesting around 30 to 35 of these seats within the National Democratic Alliance framework. This list was handed over to AIADMK’s Edappadi K. Palaniswami by BJP State president Nainar Nagenthran and Union Minister Piyush Goyal during a meeting in Chennai.
The AIADMK holds significance as a key member of the BJP-led National Democratic Alliance in Tamil Nadu, with the alliance being reaffirmed ahead of the 2026 Assembly polls. As the election approaches, both major political fronts in the state are actively engaged in negotiations for seat allocations. While discussions in the DMK-led alliance are progressing steadily, the NDA has kickstarted its internal allocation process.
Sources suggest that the BJP’s preferences include key urban constituencies like Thousand Lights, T. Nagar, and Velachery in Chennai, as well as seats in neighboring districts such as Tiruttani, Avadi, Kancheepuram, and Thalli. The list also reportedly includes constituencies like Alangulam and Tenkasi in the southern region. Additionally, the BJP is eyeing seats like Tiruvannamalai, Singanallur, Aravakurichi, Palani, Vilavancode, and Nagercoil, aiming to capitalize on its recent electoral gains and organizational presence.
Insiders reveal that the BJP’s request for 30–35 seats reflects its ambition to broaden its influence in Tamil Nadu, especially in areas where it has seen incremental progress in past elections. However, the final seat allocation will hinge on negotiations with the AIADMK leadership and the overarching alliance strategy. With preparations intensifying within both alliances, the upcoming period is anticipated to witness rigorous negotiations and strategic planning as Tamil Nadu braces for a crucial electoral showdown in 2026.
