Tamil Nadu’s handloom sector expansion efforts received a significant boost with State Ministers for Handlooms, Textiles, and Khadi, M. Vijay Balaji, and Industries, Investment Promotion, and Commerce, S. Keerthana, visiting the revamped Cooptex “Pudupavu” showroom at the State Emporia Complex in Connaught Place. The ministers conducted an official review of the renovated outlet, which has been modernized to enhance Cooptex’s visibility in North India and attract a broader customer base, especially the younger demographic.
The showroom underwent a comprehensive makeover costing Rs 49 lakh, transforming it into a modern retail space spanning 1,600 square feet. The revamp included premium lighting, modern display systems, and improved customer facilities while preserving Tamil Nadu’s traditional handloom heritage. Cooptex, established in 1935, is one of India’s largest handloom weavers’ cooperative organizations, managing 146 retail outlets nationwide that showcase authentic handloom products under the Cooptex brand.
Offering a wide array of products like Kanchipuram, Arani, Salem, and Coimbatore silk sarees, cotton sarees, ready-made garments, and more, the New Delhi showroom aims to highlight Tamil Nadu’s weaving traditions and craftsmanship. The upgraded outlet is expected to enhance the visibility of Tamil Nadu’s handloom products in the national capital, aiming to surpass the previous year’s sales of Rs 1.27 crore with a target of Rs 2 crore for the upcoming year, including a Deepavali sales goal of Rs 65 lakh.
To celebrate the reopening, customers will receive a special promotional discount of an additional 20% along with another 20% for one week. Senior officials from the Tamil Nadu government and Cooptex accompanied the Ministers during their visit.
