Chief Minister C. Joseph Vijay of Tamil Nadu recently expanded the state cabinet by inducting 23 new ministers and restructuring key portfolios. This move aims to enhance governance and ensure broader representation within the government. The expansion, which occurred less than two weeks after the government formation, includes the inclusion of Congress representatives in the ministry.
The new ministers, including S. Rajesh Kumar and P. Viswanathan from Congress, have been assigned important portfolios like Tourism and Higher Education, respectively. Additionally, Chief Minister Vijay retained core departments such as Home, Police, and General Administration, while taking direct control of Special Initiatives and Poverty Alleviation-related subjects. The reshuffle also involved senior ministers like K.A. Sengottaiyan, who transitioned to the Revenue and Disaster Management portfolio.
Furthermore, the Finance, Planning, and Development responsibilities have been handed over to N. Marie Wilson. Various sectors like Agriculture, Housing, Artificial Intelligence, Labour Welfare, and Social Welfare have also received dedicated ministerial oversight. The government’s focus on sector-specific priorities and administrative efficiency is expected to improve with this expansion.
