Chief Minister M K Stalin reiterated Tamil Nadu’s dedication to enhancing infrastructure and social support for women, enabling them to pursue education, entrepreneurship, and independent living without fear. Speaking at the Global Women’s Summit in Chennai, he highlighted women’s crucial role in achieving the government’s goal of making Tamil Nadu a USD one trillion economy. Stalin emphasized the importance of women’s involvement and leadership in ensuring sustainable economic progress, stating that inclusive development is key.
Highlighting the significance of women’s advancement, Stalin underscored the need to address structural barriers hindering women’s progress in education, employment, and business. He praised the Kalaignar Magalir Urimai Thittam, a flagship initiative providing financial aid to 1.3 crore women heads of households, as a cornerstone of the state’s social security system. Tamil Nadu boasts the highest female workforce participation rate in the country, with the Chief Minister prioritizing job creation for women in new investments.
Acknowledging the positive trend of private companies reserving jobs for women, Stalin urged for continued efforts to ensure women’s advancement and equal opportunities in growing sectors. He emphasized the historical significance of women’s empowerment in the Dravidian movement, citing the contributions of leaders like E V Ramasamy Periyar and former Chief Minister M Karunanidhi in championing women’s rights and reforms. Current initiatives like TN-RISE and TN-WE-SAFE have facilitated the rise of women entrepreneurs, particularly from rural areas, with a focus on skill development and safety measures.
Stalin highlighted the state’s initiatives to support women in the workforce, including technology assistance, skill training, and safety measures like the 181 emergency helpline and the Kavalan SOS mobile app. He stressed the importance of creating a safe environment to unlock women’s full potential and secure the state’s future prosperity.
