Tamil Nadu Chief Minister C. Joseph Vijay’s government is facing criticism from opposition parties regarding the state’s law and order situation. The Leader of the Opposition, Udhayanidhi Stalin, has questioned the government’s handling of crimes against women, children, and public safety. He specifically demanded an explanation from the Chief Minister on the measures taken to address the increasing criminal incidents, especially those involving women and children.
Udhayanidhi Stalin, in a strong social media post, raised doubts about the effectiveness of the government’s Singapen Athiradi Padai (Women Task Force) and accused the administration of not adequately addressing public concerns. He highlighted recent incidents, including murders, sexual assaults, and a petrol bomb attack, to emphasize the deteriorating law and order situation in the state. The opposition leader criticized the government for its alleged inaction in response to these incidents and its failure to uphold its promises of change.
The criticism extended beyond the opposition, with AIADMK general secretary Edappadi K. Palaniswami also expressing concerns over the recent criminal activities. He criticized the ruling government for alleged intimidation of people and officials. Additionally, AMMK founder T.T.V. Dhinakaran joined the chorus of criticism, accusing the government of passivity in addressing reports of sexual assaults involving minors across various districts. The government is under mounting pressure to demonstrate its commitment to maintaining law and order and delivering on governance promises.
