Tamil Nadu Chief Minister Joseph C. Vijay is scheduled to travel to New Delhi on Wednesday for his first official visit to the national capital since taking office. Sources indicate that he will meet with Prime Minister Narendra Modi and Union Finance Minister Nirmala Sitharaman to discuss increased financial aid for Tamil Nadu and expedited approvals for vital infrastructure projects. The visit holds significance following Vijay’s recent electoral success and the formation of Tamil Nadu’s first coalition government in years.
During his visit, Vijay is expected to advocate for enhanced Central assistance in areas such as infrastructure development, industrial initiatives, welfare schemes, and key connectivity projects crucial for the state’s economic progress. This trip comes on the heels of the Tamilaga Vettri Kazhagam’s impressive performance in the state elections, where they emerged as the largest party but fell short of a majority, leading to post-election negotiations and the formation of a coalition government with support from various parties.
Vijay’s visit to Delhi is closely monitored as it will provide insights into how the newly established coalition government plans to engage with the Union government while managing governance priorities and alliance dynamics. This move signifies a notable departure from Tamil Nadu’s traditional political landscape dominated by single-party or alliance-led governments under the DMK or the AIADMK.
