Tamil Nadu Chief Minister S. Joseph Vijay has instructed police officials to promptly register cases, conduct fast investigations, and impose strict penalties on individuals involved in serious crimes, especially those targeting women and children. This directive was given during a high-level meeting at the State Secretariat to evaluate strategies concerning crimes against women and children, expediting legal proceedings, preventive measures, and awareness campaigns.
The Chief Minister, presiding over the meeting alongside senior officials from the police department, the Social Welfare Department, and the office of the Advocate General, emphasized the importance of expeditious handling of sexual offense cases. He highlighted the necessity for effective legal procedures to ensure severe punishment for offenders, aiming to deter potential perpetrators from committing such crimes in the future.
During the discussion, Chief Minister Vijay underscored the significance of enhanced coordination among investigative agencies and relevant departments to prevent unnecessary delays in criminal cases, particularly those involving women and children. He also stressed the need for preventive actions and public awareness initiatives to reduce crime rates and enhance public safety.
