The Tamil Nadu School Education Department clarified that delays in textbook supply to government schools were not due to printing or distribution issues but resulted from new student admissions. Some schools, especially those with Classes IV and V, had reported shortages of required textbooks. Teachers also expressed worries about the delay in receiving teacher handbooks for the revised curriculum in Classes I to III.
The department explained that textbook printing and supply were done in advance based on initial student enrolment figures. However, a surge in new student admissions after schools reopened led to an unexpected increase in demand for textbooks. To address this, around 80,000 additional textbooks were printed and distributed across the state.
Officials ensured that the supplementary supply included necessary workbooks to support students who joined after the academic session began. The department emphasized that the revised demand was promptly met, assuring that all eligible students would soon have access to the required textbooks and workbooks.
Reiterating their commitment to uninterrupted learning, the School Education Department stated that any shortages were solely due to the rise in admissions post-reopening. They affirmed that there were no delays in printing or initial textbook supply and guaranteed the completion of the distribution process to provide every student with the necessary learning materials.
