In a move to bolster technology-driven governance, the Tamil Nadu Unmanned Aerial Vehicles Corporation (TNUAVC) is partnering with drone manufacturers and service providers nationwide. The corporation, operating under the Higher Education Department, aims to establish a comprehensive drone ecosystem in the state. This initiative seeks to integrate drone technology into various sectors like municipal administration, agriculture, policing, forest management, water resources, and disaster response.
TNUAVC has begun the process of empanelling drone manufacturing firms and service providers with expertise. Eligible vendors are required to have a certified drone manufacturing facility and a track record of supplying drones to government agencies. Manufacturers must also hold certification from the Directorate General of Civil Aviation (DGCA) for research and development.
Furthermore, the corporation is keen on onboarding service providers with practical experience in drone operations. Companies offering services like aerial mapping, land surveys, crop monitoring, and precision spraying will be considered. These service providers should have a proven track record in executing government projects using drone technology.
To ensure quality, TNUAVC will scrutinize the past performance of companies, including their service delivery in various states. An expert committee will evaluate applications before finalizing agreements with selected manufacturers and service firms. This initiative aligns with Tamil Nadu’s vision of becoming a technology and innovation hub, particularly in unmanned systems and advanced robotics.
By establishing a structured ecosystem that links manufacturing, research, and practical applications, the state government aims to foster indigenous drone innovation while upholding regulatory standards and operational safety. Officials believe that the strategic integration of drone technology across departments will enhance efficiency, transparency, disaster preparedness, agricultural productivity, and urban planning in Tamil Nadu.
