The Tamil Nadu government, under Chief Minister C. Joseph Vijay, is accepting applications from eligible Ulema and religious workers for a subsidised two-wheeler scheme. This initiative provides financial aid of up to Rs 50,000 for the purchase of a new vehicle, aiming to enhance the mobility of religious functionaries in fulfilling their community and religious duties effectively.
Chennai District Collector Rashmi Siddharth Zagade announced that the scheme, managed by the Tamil Nadu Ulema and Other Personnel Welfare Board, is accessible to various religious workers serving in mosques and Islamic institutions statewide. Beneficiaries, including Aalims, Pesh-Imams, Arabic teachers, muezzins, and mosque staff, must be actively involved in religious and community services to qualify.
Applicants, aged between 18 and 60, need to meet the eligibility criteria set by the Welfare Board to benefit from the scheme. By easing transportation challenges faced by religious workers who travel extensively for duties like leading prayers and providing spiritual guidance, the government believes that the subsidy of up to Rs 50,000 for a new two-wheeler will facilitate more efficient service delivery and community engagement.
Interested individuals are advised to collect application forms from their respective District Backward Classes and Minorities Welfare Offices. Completed forms, along with necessary documents, must be submitted within the specified timeframe. The scheme is open for applications until June 30, 2026, with the government encouraging eligible Ulema and religious workers to apply. This initiative is part of the state’s broader welfare efforts to support various societal segments through targeted assistance programs.
By extending mobility support to Ulema and religious personnel, Tamil Nadu aims to enhance community outreach and service delivery at the grassroots level. Prospective applicants are urged to contact their district welfare offices for detailed information on eligibility, documentation, and the application process.
