Tamil Nadu Health Minister Dr K.G. Arunraj reiterated the state government’s strong opposition to the National Eligibility-cum-Entrance Test (NEET), stating that it undermines state rights and poses barriers for economically disadvantaged students pursuing medical education. Dr. Arunraj, during his first official review meeting at Madras Medical College (MMC), emphasized the government’s unwavering stance against NEET and its commitment to addressing the issue.
He criticized the imposition of uniformity through centralized systems, advocating for policies that respect India’s diversity and consider the unique educational landscapes of different states. Tamil Nadu has a history of opposing NEET, citing its adverse impact on rural and economically weaker students.
Dr. Arunraj also outlined the government’s healthcare priorities, focusing on enhancing patient experience and elevating care standards in state-run hospitals. He stressed the importance of quality care, patient welfare, and creating a welcoming hospital environment to instill public confidence in government healthcare facilities.
