In an effort to standardize temple management, the Tamil Nadu Hindu Religious and Charitable Endowments (HR&CE) Department has implemented new guidelines for the installation and consecration of temple flagstaffs. These guidelines, overseen by HR&CE Commissioner T.G. Vinay, aim to ensure adherence to Agama traditions and establish a uniform administrative process statewide. Temple authorities are now required to obtain approval from the Commissioner at least 15 days before initiating any flagstaff-related work.

The introduced system focuses on enhancing transparency, maintaining consistency in decision-making, and preventing deviations from traditional temple practices. Proposals for flagstaff installations must undergo thorough scrutiny, including approval from regional and district-level committees. The opinion of the Regional Sthapathi is also mandatory to ensure compliance with Agama principles and architectural standards.

Furthermore, detailed documentation, technical reports, and site plans are essential components of the approval process. The guidelines outline specific procedures to be followed before, during, and after the consecration ceremony, emphasizing adherence to Agama practices and departmental norms. Officials are tasked with enforcing these rules to guarantee that all installations align with established customs and administrative protocols.

The Commissioner highlighted the objective of these guidelines as streamlining the flagstaff installation process while maintaining consistency in administrative decisions across HR&CE-managed temples. Joint Commissioners, Deputy Commissioners, and Executive Officers have been instructed to enforce the new rules rigorously to ensure compliance with the department’s regulations.
