Viduthalai Chiruthaigal Katchi (VCK) Deputy General Secretary and Tamil Nadu Social Justice Minister Vanniyarasu criticized the recent violence in Kunnam, Perambalur district, denouncing alleged attacks by DMK cadres on VCK workers. He stressed the importance of maintaining civil and democratic politics in the state. Vanniyarasu expressed disapproval of the violent incident, highlighting the need for peaceful political engagement.
The Minister, speaking at Madurai Airport, received a warm welcome from VCK supporters upon his arrival from Chennai. Supporters greeted him with shawls, garlands, and flower bouquets, creating a brief commotion as they vied to honor him. Vanniyarasu also addressed the Kunnam violence, stating that the clashes were unwarranted and should not have occurred.
Regarding the proposed Mekedatu dam project in Karnataka, Vanniyarasu reiterated VCK’s opposition and called for an all-party meeting on the matter. He criticized the project as “anti-farmer” and emphasized the need to protect the interests of farmers. The Minister responded to concerns about law and order under the new government, urging patience as the administration works to stabilize the situation.
Vanniyarasu highlighted the importance of safeguarding marginalized communities, urging impartial policing without caste or religious bias. He reiterated VCK’s demand for a dedicated law to prevent honor killings, emphasizing the party’s commitment to social justice and equality.
