Tamil Nadu’s Central Zone police are conducting a thorough verification campaign to ensure that foreign nationals and students in various districts comply with registration requirements under the Immigration and Foreigners Act–2025. This initiative aims to enhance monitoring processes and guarantee that property owners and institutions adhere to the necessary procedures for hosting foreign residents.
As part of this effort, officials are verifying whether building owners, educational institutions, hotels, and other establishments have furnished the required information on the Foreigners Regional Registration Office (FRRO) portal. According to the Act, property owners accommodating foreign nationals must submit details using Form ‘C’, while foreign students need to complete Form ‘S’ with approval from the Superintendent of Police of their respective district.
The verification drive, focused on the Central Zone, has revealed a notable presence of foreign nationals in the Tiruchy range, encompassing Tiruchy, Pudukkottai, Karur, Perambalur, and Ariyalur districts. Authorities have identified 439 foreign nationals and 86 foreign students residing in these districts. In the neighboring Thanjavur range, which includes Thanjavur, Tiruvarur, Nagapattinam, and Mayiladuthurai, 32 foreign students have been registered through their educational institutions.
Overall, the Central Zone is home to 461 foreign nationals, with 380 individuals having completed the mandatory registration on the FRRO portal. However, 81 individuals are yet to provide their information, prompting authorities to escalate follow-up actions. Police have instructed hotels, lodges, guest houses, hospitals, and educational institutions to upload details of foreign occupants within 24 hours of their arrival, with stringent penalties for non-compliance.
Authorities have cautioned that failure to adhere to registration requirements may result in fines of Rs 50,000 for Form ‘C’ violations and Rs 1 lakh for Form ‘S’ lapses. Senior officers emphasize that this initiative not only enforces legal provisions but also ensures accurate records for security and administrative purposes, fostering better coordination between local police and immigration authorities.
