Tamil Nadu’s power sector is facing a significant financial challenge, burdened with a debt of nearly ₹2.5 lakh crore. Minister Nirmal Kumar has raised concerns about irregularities and legal violations from the previous government’s tenure contributing to the current crisis. He mentioned that cases of misconduct have been referred to the Central Bureau of Investigation (CBI) for investigation.
The Electricity Board, serving millions of consumers in the state, has suffered due to administrative failures and financial mismanagement over the years. Minister Nirmal Kumar highlighted the urgent need for a complete restructuring of the organization to address its mounting debt and ensure financial stability. The government is exploring various options to revive the utility and enhance its efficiency for public benefit.
