In an effort to enhance transparency in fee collection, all private schools in Tamil Nadu have been directed by the Tamil Nadu Directorate of Private Schools to visibly showcase their approved tuition fee structures on notice boards and official websites by June 5.
This directive pertains to various private educational institutions, including nursery, primary, matriculation, CBSE, and other private board schools operating in Tamil Nadu. The move follows a recent ruling by the Tamil Nadu Information Commission, emphasizing that a school’s fee details are public information and should be easily accessible to parents and the general public.
The Information Commission’s order, issued on May 29, mandated the Directorate of Private Schools to ensure adherence and submit a report by June 15. Consequently, the department has issued detailed guidelines to schools and district-level officials for immediate implementation.
According to the directive, school managements and principals must prominently display the tuition fees approved by the Fee Determination Committee in a manner visible to parents and the public. Schools are also required to publish the approved fee structures on their official websites, in addition to notice boards.
Moreover, it is now compulsory for schools to include class-specific tuition fee details in student admission application forms. This measure aims to ensure that parents are well-informed about the sanctioned fee structure before enrolling their children.
District Educational Officers (Private Schools) have been tasked with monitoring compliance by conducting inspections within their jurisdictions and verifying the implementation of the orders. Detailed compliance reports must be submitted to the Directorate by June 10.
As part of the verification process, schools will need to provide photographic evidence demonstrating the display of approved fee structures. The Directorate will maintain these records as evidence of implementation and compliance.
Director of Private Schools S. Suganya emphasized strict adherence to the order, warning of official notices and further government action against schools failing to comply. Education officials anticipate that this initiative will address parental concerns regarding fee transparency and foster increased accountability among private educational institutions in Tamil Nadu.
