Even as Tamil Nadu faces scorching temperatures, the Regional Meteorological Centre predicts rainfall in various districts due to shifts in westerly winds. Nine districts, including the Western Ghats area, Namakkal, and Salem, are expected to receive rain on Tuesday. Theni district may experience heavy rain with thunderstorms, while moderate rainfall is forecasted for several other districts.
The weather department warns of heavy rainfall in Madurai, Ramanathapuram, and Sivaganga districts in the next two days. Rainfall is anticipated to continue in parts of Tamil Nadu, Puducherry, and Karaikal for at least a week. Chennai is likely to have partly cloudy skies with a chance of light rain in some areas, expecting a maximum temperature of around 40 degrees Celsius.
Following a period of mild weather, Tamil Nadu has witnessed a sudden spike in temperatures, with twelve locations recording scorching conditions. Chennai’s Meenambakkam and Nungambakkam stations reported the highest temperature at 40 degrees Celsius. Despite the heatwave-like conditions, some districts received rainfall on Monday, providing temporary relief.
Meteorologists suggest that Tamil Nadu will continue to experience a mix of intense heat and sporadic rainfall in the coming days.
