Tata Motors has confirmed receiving more than 3,400 orders for electric commercial vehicles (eCVs) in various segments, showcasing the increasing acceptance of electric transportation solutions in India. The orders consist of approximately 2,000 small commercial vehicles (SCVs) and pickups, close to 900 trucks, and about 500 buses. These eCVs will be utilized in diverse applications such as e-commerce, logistics, FMCG and FMCD distribution, intra-city mobility, and industries like cement, steel, mining, and tarmac operations.
The company views these orders as a testament to the rising trust of customers in electric commercial vehicles, signifying a transition from trial initiatives to large-scale practical deployment across different sectors. Tata Motors believes that this surge in orders reinforces its standing in India’s electric commercial vehicle market and aligns with the country’s push towards zero-emission transportation. The company also notes a significant shift towards incorporating electric vehicles into daily operations across various businesses, indicating a maturing phase in the commercial vehicle electric mobility sector.
Tata Motors has been actively expanding its electric commercial vehicle portfolio over the past year, catering to multiple segments. In the small commercial vehicle category, the company offers models like Ace Pro EV, Ace EV, and Intra EV for last-mile and intra-city transport needs. Additionally, Tata Motors has ventured into intermediate and heavy commercial vehicle segments with its Ultra EV range, including models like Prima EV 55T tractor and Prima EV 28T tipper designed for more demanding freight tasks.
In the passenger mobility sector, Tata Motors provides the Starbus EV and Ultra EV buses for intra-city and inter-city travel services. The automaker highlights its substantial electric fleet currently operational in India, comprising over 3,800 electric buses covering a cumulative distance of more than 55 crore kilometers. Moreover, in the small commercial vehicle segment, Tata Motors reports that over 17,000 Tata electric SCVs are presently in operation on Indian roads.
