Tata Motors has achieved a significant milestone in India’s electric vehicle sector by surpassing sales of over 2.5 lakh TATA.ev cars on Indian roads. This accomplishment highlights the company’s strong position in the rapidly growing electric passenger vehicle market in the country.
The rise in electric vehicle popularity among Indian consumers has shifted from early adopters to mainstream buyers. Tata Motors has been instrumental in driving this change, especially since the introduction of its first mass-market electric car, the Nexon.ev, in 2020.
The Nexon.ev made history as the first electric car in India to achieve over one lakh cumulative sales. Currently, Tata Motors holds a substantial market share, accounting for about 66% of all electric passenger vehicles sold in India, making it a dominant player in the EV segment.
Tata Motors offers a diverse EV portfolio, including models like Tiago.ev, Punch.ev, Nexon.ev, Curvv.ev, and Harrier.ev, catering to various price points and body styles. Additionally, the company provides the XPRES-T EV for fleet operators, expanding the accessibility of electric mobility to a wider customer base.
Shailesh Chandra, Managing Director and CEO of Tata Motors Passenger Vehicles Limited, emphasized that the milestone of 2.5 lakh EV sales signifies the integration of electric mobility into everyday life in India. He noted the increasing confidence of customers in driving EVs as their primary mode of transportation.
Chandra highlighted Tata Motors’ holistic approach to the EV ecosystem, focusing not only on vehicle sales but also on building a supportive infrastructure for India’s transition to clean mobility. This includes collaboration with government policies, suppliers, charging partners, and customers to promote sustainable transportation solutions.
A crucial aspect of Tata Motors’ EV strategy has been the development of charging infrastructure. TATA.ev currently has access to over two lakh charging points nationwide, offering home, community, and public charging options. The company’s charging aggregator encompasses more than 20,000 public charging points, with 100 MegaCharging Hubs equipped with fast-charging capabilities operational along major highways and city routes.
