The TDP-led ruling NDA in Andhra Pradesh is poised to secure all four Rajya Sabha seats in the upcoming June 18 polls, given its strong majority in the state legislative Assembly. The Telugu Desam Party (TDP) is anticipated to retain two seats and allocate one each to its allies – the Bharatiya Janata Party (BJP) and Jana Sena Party (JSP).
The Election Commission of India has announced the election schedule for 24 seats across 10 states, including Andhra Pradesh, with notifications set for June 1 and the deadline for nominations on June 8. If required, polling will take place on June 18.
The vacancies in Andhra Pradesh are due to the conclusion of the term of four members on June 21, including members from the YSR Congress Party and TDP. The NDA, with a significant presence in the 175-member Assembly, is expected to secure a unanimous victory. The TDP holds 135 seats, while its allies, Jana Sena and BJP, have 21 and 8 seats respectively, compared to the YSRCP’s 11 seats.
Businessman-turned-politician Satish Babu, a candidate of the NDA, was elected unopposed in December 2024 to fill vacancies in the Rajya Sabha. The TDP, after a brief absence, is set to return to the Upper House of Parliament, with expectations to retain Satish Babu and allocate the second seat to another TDP aspirant.
Chief Minister and TDP President N. Chandrababu Naidu is reportedly planning to reserve one seat each for his allies, with Jana Sena and BJP set to secure representation in the Rajya Sabha.
