A 29-year-old teacher, Jobin Solomon, working at a private school in Palayamkottai, Tamil Nadu, has been arrested for allegedly sexually harassing minor girl students. Solomon, who taught mathematics to students in Classes 9, 10, and 11, faced complaints about inappropriate behavior both inside and outside the classroom. Reports suggested that he made students uncomfortable with his conduct over a prolonged period.
The accusations against Solomon included accessing girl students’ phone numbers through an official academic WhatsApp group and sending inappropriate messages, particularly late at night. Concerns were raised among parents and school authorities upon learning about the nature of these messages. Following internal verification, the school management filed a formal complaint at the All Women Police Station in Palayamkottai.
An investigation revealed that the alleged harassment had been ongoing for more than three months. Solomon was charged under relevant sections of the POCSO Act, which addresses sexual offenses against minors. Subsequently, he was arrested, presented before a judicial magistrate, and remanded to judicial custody for further inquiries. Authorities emphasized the seriousness of POCSO Act offenses and encouraged parents and students to report any inappropriate behavior without hesitation.
