Teenager Vaibhav Sooryavanshi has received his first call-up to the Indian T20I team for upcoming tours to Ireland, England, and the Asian Games. He replaces Suryakumar Yadav in the squad, with Shreyas Iyer taking over as the new T20I captain. Chief selector Ajit Agarkar mentioned that Shreyas’ strong performance made him a deserving captain.
India is scheduled to play two T20Is in Belfast and five matches in England, followed by participation in the Men’s T20 event at the Asian Games in Japan. Suryakumar’s recent form, with low returns in the IPL and the T20 World Cup, led to the selectors opting for a change in leadership. Shreyas will lead the team, with Tilak Varma as the vice-captain.
Shreyas, who last played a T20I in December 2023, is set to return to the fold and is expected to bat at number four. Vaibhav Sooryavanshi, known for his exceptional performances in the U19 World Cup and IPL, has also been included in the squad. His impressive track record and talent have earned him a spot in the team.
Harshit Rana and Ravi Bishnoi, returning from injuries, are back in the squad, along with fast bowler Prince Yadav. The squads for the upcoming tours include a mix of experienced players and promising talents, aiming to strengthen India’s T20I team for the upcoming series.
