Teenage cricketer Vaibhav Sooryavanshi expressed his joy at being selected for the Indian senior team and described the emotional moment of receiving his India jersey as a dream come true. At just 15 years and 71 days old, Sooryavanshi earned his place in the India T20 squad for upcoming tours, making him the youngest player to be chosen for India, surpassing Sachin Tendulkar’s 36-year-old record. If he plays, Sooryavanshi will also become the youngest Indian to debut in men’s international cricket.
Reflecting on his achievement, Sooryavanshi stated, “Words cannot explain it. The reason I picked up the bat from day one and went to the ground for practice: that dream is fulfilled now.” He further expressed his elation upon seeing the India jersey, stating, “I felt like a dream when I saw that T-shirt; I couldn’t stop smiling.”
India is scheduled to play two T20Is in Belfast on June 26 and 28, followed by five matches in England from July 1 to 11. The Asian Games men’s cricket tournament will commence on September 24 and conclude with the medal matches on October 3. Sooryavanshi’s selection follows his outstanding performance in the IPL 2026 season with Rajasthan Royals, where he emerged as a standout player.
