Teenage cricketer Vaibhav Sooryavanshi made history by scoring the fastest fifty in List A cricket, achieving this feat in just 11 balls during an India A match against Sri Lanka A in the Tri-Series final at Rangiri Dambulla International Stadium. Sooryavanshi, aged 15, surpassed the previous record set by Sri Lanka’s Kaushalya Weeraratne of a 12-ball fifty. His innings included five fours and five sixes, marking his first half-century with India A.
In a remarkable display of talent, Sooryavanshi’s aggressive batting came to an end when he was dismissed by Sri Lanka’s skipper Sahan Arachchige after scoring 94 runs off 29 balls. His innings was embellished with 10 boundaries and eight maximums. This exceptional performance further solidified his reputation as a rising star in Indian cricket.
Recently, Sooryavanshi received his maiden call-up to the India T20I squad for the upcoming tours of Ireland, England, and the Asian Games 2026, marking another milestone in his burgeoning career. At just 15 years and 71 days old, the left-handed opener became the youngest player to be selected for the men’s team, surpassing the longstanding record held by Sachin Tendulkar for 36 years.
If Sooryavanshi makes his debut during the upcoming tour, he will also become the youngest player to represent India in men’s international cricket. Notably, Washington Sundar currently holds the record for the youngest Indian to play a T20I match, achieving this feat at the age of 18 years and 80 days against Sri Lanka in 2017. Tendulkar, a legendary figure in Indian cricket, remains the youngest Indian player in ODI cricket history, having debuted against Pakistan in 1989 at the age of 16 years and 238 days.
