Bharatiya Janata Party National Yuva Morcha President Tejasvi Surya, also Bengaluru South Lok Sabha Member, criticized the Bengaluru Metro Rail Corporation Limited’s decision to raise fares. Surya expressed discontent during a press conference at his Bengaluru residence, highlighting that Bengaluru’s metro fares are now the highest in the country, deterring common commuters. He emphasized that the state government and BMRC are taking advantage of the public, especially with the prolonged delays in the Orange Line metro project.

Surya called for the immediate rectification of the fare hike decision, urging the state government to collaborate with the central government to reconstitute the fare fixation committee. He emphasized the need for political leaders to prioritize public interests over blame-shifting, warning of impending protests by the BJP if the fare hike proceeds in February. Surya stressed the importance of safeguarding the welfare of Bengaluru’s residents against unjustified fare increases, urging the government to act responsibly.
